Competition
The club's competition calendar has centred on Navigation Runs and Show-n-Shine events.Every year, the club's Nav. Run competition (a series of observationruns undertaken at night) has covered large parts of Brisbane withdrivers seeing new parts of the city on every course and observation ornavigation challenges of increasing difficulty.
We want to open up the Nav. Run events to non-club members - makingthese nights a bit more competitive as well as bringing other Toyotaclubs (like the Starlet Club or the MR2 club) a little closer.
There is a wide range of interests across club members. We haveyoung and old enthusiasts - some keen to modify and enhance their cars, others carefully setting about restoring and preserving their cars tofactory condition.
Ownership of vehicles stretches from early model Coronas, Crowns andCorollas to current model hybrid-engined Prius. The earlier history ofthe club - when it was known as the Celica Car Club - is still alivewith many members owning one or more (and in one case over a dozen)Celica coupes and hatches.
It's been a while since club members listed a register of cars - butwe think a new list would cover just about every model: Corolla, Camry,Cressida, Celica, Crown, Corona, Supra, Soarer, Prius, Paseo, Starlet,MR2, Tercel, and Hilux come to mind.
Another telling fact of the diversity of members is that theShow-n-Shine winners for 2005 and 2006 were women (Hayley Rankin in2006 and Debbie Keans in 2005). Despite most meetings looking a bitlike a boys-only affair, it's the girls who (lately) seem to know howto prepare and show a car that wins awards and the admiration of showvisitors.
In 2006 we had a change of venue, heading to Chandler for ourShow-n-Shine. We had plenty of shade and a wide (and at times slightlybewildered) variety of onlookers.
2007 saw the club have it's show events as part of other show-n-shine events. To avoid date clashes and reduce the number of club events we held show events at All-Toyota-Day and the Z-club's Classic Jap Show-n-Shine. Club member numbers were down compared to previous year but it saved having to organise a solo show for club members.
The Nav runs series included a "President's Run" event run straight after the All-Toyota-Day show event.
For 2008, the show event returned to Hawkins Garden Centre at Chandler. Although numbers were down on the previous show at Hawkins, all drivers and many visitors were on hand for the awarding of prizes midway thru the afternoon.
