Social events
The club's social events are usually cruises to nearby locations (like the bayside, the sunshine coast and sometimes westward) and friendly competitive nights of go- karting. The club also makes an annual trek to watch the Noosa Hillclimb - it's a fascinating event seeing all kinds of race cars like historic and vintage open-wheelers, specialty racing cars like the Porsche 962 Group C Le Mans winner, owner-built hillclimb specials and many other race-proven sedans, coupes and hatches.
Cruises have gone up the range to Queen Mary Falls (on the escarpment south-east of Warwick), westward to Moogerah Dam near Boonah, up the winding roads of Mt Mee, or coastward to Cleveland for a breezy barbecue lunch.
Past Christmas cruises have been a delightful mix of the winding roads of Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo ending up with a laid-back lunch at Somerset or Wivenhoe Dams.
Go-karting has become something of a 'must-do' each year, although some competitors usually take the speed to heart by tipping go-karts on their sides or just running the poor, suffering machines into the ground with dead engines and worn-out brakes.
Although we're not a formal motorsport club, there are members who are actively involved in Rallying, Drag Racing, Sprints, Drifting, Motorkhana, Autokhana and Circuit Racing. The cost of organising and running these kinds of events is quite significant (and risky) but the committee wants to raise the profile of the club at these events - whether it's as spectators or teaming up with other clubs. In 2006 we missed out on a Dyno Day, but in 2007 we plan to hopefully emulate the 2005 combined Dyno and Show-n-Shine day. The last event showed that you don't need a high-performance show car to compete in these events and win trophies!
The club has also participated in other auto clubs' events - with members competing in motorkhana and dyno day events. We also think that cruises could be bigger - and not just ours! - so we want to join in with other clubs when they trek across the south-east landscape.
Over the last two years, we've made a few treks up to Gympie to hold our own casual motorkhanas and compete in the Cooloola Car Club's own formal motorkhana events. Despite the long drive up, we've had long queues of Toyota enthusiasts waiting for their turn on the Roadcraft skid pan.
In past years the club has held 'tech nights' with the help of sponsors and supporters of the club's discount list. Last years visit to Fulcrum Suspension was the topic of conversation for months afterwards, prompting club members to re-think (or confirm their suspicions) about how to make their cars drive and handle better.
