Competition
Show-n-Shine
Show events are a great opportunity for you to bring out your finished (or still-in-progress) car and show it off to club members and the public.
In recent year's we've had show-n-shine events at places like Hawkins garden centre at Chandler, Harry's Diner and even a dyno shop.
These are not 'concourse' competitions and as recent years have proved, your daily driver could be a class winner!
Competition is open to club member s and the day is a laid-back affair allowing folks to do their own thing, catch-up and talk car stuff with club members and visitors or just lapp up the sunshine before cruising home.
Lately, the classes of competition have been simplified to make judging quicker and allow trophies to be given out on the day - this is so non-club members don't miss out on any prizes and some of those attending have a good chance of driving home with a trophy.
In 2007 & 2008, the classes were:
- best pre '86 (e.g. classic category)
- bet post '86 (from FWD Celica onwards)
- best original (allows for 3 factory modifications/extras only)
- best modified (usually turbo or super-charged show ponies)
and at each event, there's been a prize for crowd favourite or a judges personal choice.
Night runs
Night Runs - sometimes called Navigation Runs - are a fun, social and competitive event.
You're given route instructions that, if followed correctly, and drivenat road legal speeds, you end up a specific destination for food, coffee and commiserations
Along the route you'll be given observational questions to solve (e.g.a phone number from a sign, or a name of a building, or an anagram of astreet name).
The route is only roughly timed (you have 5 minutes leway either sidefrom the time taken when settin the route) and if you're too fast(e.g. you drive way too fast and above the speed limit) you loose twice as many points as going slowly.
The distance you drive is also measured so short-cuts will trip you up - likewise if you travel too far you also loose points.
The route instructions are easy to follow, e.g. L @ T or SA @ LTS(which means left at T-intersection or straight ahead at trafficlights) and if you get stuck or lost, you can phone us for hints, helpor the end point if you've given up.
As the competition series progresses, the questions get harder and theroute instructions go thru more complex and tricky settingsm but a raw novice can complete and win an event.
You don't have to club member to enter a Night Run, but non-members can't win trophies at the end of the series.
